Phil is a band director and professional free-lance trumpet player. He was born and raised in Shawnee, KS. His mother made a deal with Phil that if he practiced after dinner, he did not have to dry the dishes. He soon began practicing for enjoyment rather than to escape doing the dishes. He continues to expand his ability with daily practicing and frequent performances. Phil attended Missouri Western State College on a music scholarship and graduated in 1986 with a degree in music education with a performance emphasis. He received a Master’s in Education in 1994 from Mid America University. Phil continues to hone his trumpet skills through instruction from Master musicians. Phil has served as an instrumental director and orchestra director at area churches. He has played with
The Kansas City Symphony,
The Lyric Opera, The Civic Theatre of Kansas City, World of Fun - Tivoli, area big bands, jazz bands and brass quintets/quartets. He has served as soloist for area churches and choirs. He has played hundreds of weddings at a variety of venues. |
